serving: 2 burgers
Ingredients
Burgers:
1/2 lb ground beef
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
2 Burger buns
Caramelized onions & prunes:
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
1/2 cup chopped prunes (about 8–10 prunes)
1 tbsp olive oil or butter
1 tsp balsamic vinegar and brown sugar
Pinch of salt
Optional toppings:
Cheese slice
Lettuce and tomatoes
Directions
Prepare the onions & prunes:
In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil or butter.
Add sliced onions with a pinch of salt. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 15–20 minutes until golden and soft.
Add chopped prunes and balsamic vinegar and brown sugar. Stir and cook for another 5 minutes until everything is sticky and jammy. Set aside.
Form and season burgers:
Divide ground beef into 2 equal portions. Gently form into patties, slightly wider than your buns.
Season both sides with salt, pepper.
Grill the burgers:
Preheat the grill to medium-high. Grill patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness and desired doneness.
Place the cheese on the patties during the last minute of cooking and cover the grill to melt.
Place burger patties on buns, top with a generous spoonful of the caramelized onion & prune mixture.
Add greens and condiments of your choice.
Enjoy!
